Bikini - Paradise in the Danger Zone

A film by Annette Scheurich and Marcel Steuermann, Documentary (43 min.)

Bikini-Islands are a monument of destruction by atomic bombs making the tropical islands uninhabitable for mankind until a few years ago. Deep wounds of destruction and radiation will mark the former paradise for a long time. But nature as such, however, has a much longer timescale and engulfs whatever happens into its own world. And so again plants and animals live on the island paradise and the shipwrecks, which were sunk to show off the American war power, are now integrated into a fantastic underwater world. For me the Bikini-Atoll is a symbol of how we are continuously destroying the environment we love while forever striving to keep the natural paradise we long for.
